Can GERD be service connected secondary to stress or PTSD?
I've been dealing with severe acid reflux and GERD since my symptoms of PTSD started getting worse. Is there a connection the VA recognizes between stomach issues and mental health?

There is a strong clinical link between chronic stress/PTSD and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). The body’s "fight or flight" response can increase stomach acid production and affect the function of the lower esophageal sphincter. To claim GERD as secondary to PTSD: 1. You need a formal diagnosis of GERD via an endoscopy or clinical evaluation. 2. A medical nexus that explains the physiological link between your service-connected PTSD and your digestive symptoms. 3. Documentation of how your PTSD symptoms or medications (like SSRIs or NSAIDs for related pain) contribute to your GERD. GERD is typically rated at 10%, 30%, or 60% based on the severity of symptoms like pain, vomiting, and weight loss.
